St. Patrick was a wealthy Englishman that was taken captive by Irish raiders when he was 16. After living in captivity for 6 years he escaped back to England but then had a dream that God wanted him to return to Ireland to become a missionary. He went back to Ireland and started converting the Irish to Catholism, which remains the dominant religion of Ireland to this day.
